Meet Our Animals

Alpacas

Picture of a Brechin Castle Centre AlpacasThe Alpaca originated in Central America and are smaller than the Llama. They stand just under a metre at the shoulder and weigh, on average, 68kg. Their luxurious fleece produce wonderfully soft and warm knitwear.

Kune Kune Pigs

The Kune Kune Pig comes from new Zealand and they are popular pets due to their love of humans and their excellent temperament. An interesting feature is a pair of tassles under their chins called Piri Piri.

Jacob Ewes and Lambs

Jacob sheep are multihorned and are known to make good pets and although under threat of extinction in the USA are thriving in the UK.

Craig came from the Angus Glens to join us here at Brechin Castle Centre.

Chickens!

We have four different types of hen; Buff Rock Bantams, Wyandotte Bantams, Hi-Line Layers & a Barred Rock Cockerel. They all live next door to each other in large runs.

April & May

April & May are Sally's newest arrivals. Born in March 2008 they are the most adorable kids around! They love to bounce about and play and are only a little shy of new friends.

Sally

Sally is a pygmy goat and the mother of our other three goats, Cinders, April & May. Sally keeps her family close, overseeing her little ones, lucky for us as they can be quite a handful!

Cinders

Cinders is Sally's oldest kid and she came to live here at Brechin Castle Centre with her mum at the end of 2007. Cinders looks out for her younger siblings, April & May and tries to keep them out of mischief, when she's not jumping the fence herself!

Picture of a ChickenBunnies!

We have many cute & fluffy bunnies here at the model farm. They have large runs & can play outside in the sun or retreat to their hutch on the cooler days.

Birds

We currently (Summer 2008) have cockatiels and budgies visiting us. They are housed just across from the rabbits and can be quite noisy when excited!

The Mysterious White Goat

Our delightful White Goat goes by no other name, a true mystery goat! He likes to meet new people and can often be found getting acquainted with those who stop by.
